From the organizers:

A cast iron pan is one of the most essential tools in any home kitchen. If you have inherited an antique or are starting fresh with a brand new pan, caring for your cast iron skillet is paramount to its performance and longevity.

To inspire you to take better care of your tools, we’ve teamed up with our friends at Field Company, a family business devoted to making a product that gets better with time, care and skill. Join us for a two hour workshop where you’ll learn:

  • How to care for your cast iron pan, including seasoning, cleaning and breaking in a new skillet with hands-on demonstration
  • Cast Iron Principles and common misconceptions about care and cooking (Yes, you can use soap. And bacon isn’t the best for your seasoning – but we’ll cover which fats are). There aren’t hard rules around cast iron, so we’ll empower you with the knowledge so you can have confidence caring for your pan over time.
  • How cast iron pans are made and an overview of the different types available today, new and vintage so you know what to look for when shopping.
  • Three simple recipes to be enjoyed throughout the workshop, which can all be made entirely in a cast iron pan. Recipe demos will include tips and tricks for cooking with cast iron to optimize flavor and build seasoning.

Participants will leave this workshop feeling confident and capable to perform this care regime at home with emailed resources and recipes. Come hear the Field Company story and possibly purchase a Field Skillet from the founders themselves.

Attendees are welcome (but not required in the least) to come with examples of their cast iron fails by bringing in the actual rusty/charred pans or photographic evidence for advice on bringing those pans back into circulation.
