You likely already know how much we like bk farmyards, considering we made the urban agriculture program the subject of a NY1 show, a photo slideshow and even a future spread in the pages of Edible Brooklyn: Look for it next summer. So, let’s just say we strongly encourage you to help make sure that by the time that fantastic print piece appears, it’ll be even better than ever. So below are details on their $40 fundraiser dinner this Saturday night: It’s local produce prepared by a slew of local restaurants right in the Kingston Avenue fields where it was grown by Brooklyn students with help from bk farmyards. Those who pitch in $75 get to tote home a bag of produce, to boot. Best yet: You can take the subway! To a farm dinner! Your attendance can help ensure this happens a lot more often in Brooklyn, too.

Urban Agriculture Coalition Launches Brooklyn Pop-Up Farm Dinner September 17, 5 p.m.
Green Guerillas, High School for Public Service and BK Farmyards are proud to announce the launch of a one-night-only Pop-Up Farm Dinner on Saturday, September 17 (with a rain date on Saturday, September 24). Teaming with several local restaurants including Brucie, 61 Local, The General Greene, Juventino, Four and Twenty Blackbirds and Scratchbread the dinner is to be hosted on the grounds of the Youth Farm at 600 Kingston Avenue. In addition to some of the tastiest and most innovative food of the year, intimate tours of the farm will be given while guests sip farm drinks and enjoy live music from local Brooklyn residents.
The 4 course, family-style dinner features the produce and flowers grown on site prepared by local chefs. General admission is only $40; Green Grower level donors of $75 or more leave with a basket of freshly picked produce. All guests receive special gift bags featuring fair-trade and local-centric products. Proceeds from the event will help cover repairs from recent Hurricane Irene as well as continue to expand health and community programming at the farm.
