If you can’t get yourself up to the Algonquin today, perhaps instead honor this famed, ferociously smart New York writer with some of Brooklyn’s own Dorothy Parker Gin from New York Distilling. But it begs the question: Why did Allen Katz name his spirit after the erudite 20s-era wit? So says Mr. Katz:
1. He wrote a musical short in college based on her short stories.
2. His graduation gift from his mom and dad was a collection of her works.
3. He’s been reading her essays and poems forever and a day.
4. He and his wife, Samantha, read ‘Here We Are’ as the words for their wedding ceremony.
5. “She was a damn cool broad and damn good drinker.”
In her honor, make yourself Katz’s Clever Lady tonight (or, whenever your chosen cocktail hour arrives) — cheers.
