The only thing better than happy hour with your friends is happy hour with your friends and your dog. (Sorry cat owners, but it’s true.)
On Saturday, May 27, do just that when BYOD NYC (Bring Your Own Dog) pop-ups at Terra Firma from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
“There’s going to a pet photographer, some games for the dogs, and small batch homemade dog treats,” BYOD NYC co-owner Lauren Hanlon said.
Hanlon and her business partner Verena Erhart are working towards opening a permanent BYOD NYC, which would be the city’s first dog friendly cafe, but while they search for a space and finalize funding the two are hosting a series of pop-ups throughout the summer. Check their Facebook page for updates on future pop-ups.
The pair, each dog owners, with years of experience working in the hospitality industry see the creation of BYOB as a way to combine their love of hospitality and dogs.
“When I lived in Denver I would spend a lot of time at the dog park, and I thought I would totally pay to hang out here,” Hanlon said. “We want to build a place where we would like to be.”
Eventually, they hope BYOD will offer a menu of frequently changing, seasonal vegetable dishes inspired by the world’s cuisines but without certain ingredients that are poisonous to dogs such as chocolate and grapes. Dogs will be offered home baked treats, fresh water, and, for special occasions, pet wine such as Malbark and Zinfantail.
Get a taste of what’s to come next Saturday. Tickets are $20 per person and include two drinks, snacks for your dog, an electronic copy of the photos and more.
