I’m one of those annoying millennials that feels smug about having heard every episode of This American Life and got my family addicted to Serial over Thanksgiving just so we could talk about it at Christmas. I’m always on the lookout for a new podcast, especially if it’s funny or relatable. That’s why I was glad to hear that Brooklyn Based and Brooklyn Brewery have teamed up to host Tom Shillue’s Funny Story, a self-described “sloppy Moth” where comedians and storytellers share things with a live audience. Each month they turn the event into a podcast for those of us that can’t (or won’t) trek to Williamsburg on a weeknight.
If you’re a binge listener, you’re in luck: they’ve already put out three episodes, available on SoundCloud and iTunes. Some of my favorite stories include a disastrous trip to Turkey and one guy’s experience of a pilot show designed to rival SNL (hint: SNL is still on the air, this one isn’t). Don’t say I didn’t warn you — some of them are NSFW, but they may turn you into this guy on the subway. Enjoy, and be sure to check out the live show sometime. It happens on the third Thursday of every month, and $10 buys you admission and a beer.
