SUMMARY:The Art of Flavor with Daniel Patterson and Mandy Aftel
DESCRIPTION:From the organizers: \nJoin James Beard Award winner Daniel Patterson and perfumer Mandy Aftel as they discuss their new book The Art of Flavor: Practices and Principles for Creating Delicious Food and the importance of natural ingredients and flavors for both the well-seasoned and amateur chef. Discussion will be moderated by Adam Sachs of Saveur magazine. \nThe Art of Flavor reminds us that nature is the ultimate flavorist. That means starting with fresh ingredients that are readily available everywhere and taking our cue from them to make food that can be both simple and deeply satisfying. Chef Daniel Patterson and Mandy Aftel guide readers toward developing a more personalized relationship with food via the palate-expanding tools and concepts they offer—from the Four Rules of Flavor to the “The Flavor Compass” that demystifies the most intense and exciting ingredients (spices\, herbs\, flowers and citruses) to explaining how “locking” and “burying” ingredients can elevate a dish to new heights. \nThe evening will conclude with a book signing reception and small bites straight out of the book\, prepared by MOFAD Chef John Hutt.

SUMMARY:Water and Fire: A Pop Up Dinner and Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:From the organizers: \nJoin Fishmonger turned Chef Gustavo Frias and Chef Ankur Parikh for an 8 course pop up dinner with dishes reflecting creative interpretations of the elements Water and Fire. \nThe menu will represent our independent ethnic identities as Mexican and Indian Americans in combination with forms of culinary inspiration we have each encountered and studied along our journeys as chefs and first generation immigrants. Our version of NYC cuisine. \nIn representing our respect to water and fire we will draw from\, and build upon entities ranging from aguachile to rasam to smoked mole. We will be sourcing sustainable local seafood and local\, seasonal produce. \nProceeds will be sent to Texas to lend support to efforts engaged with repairing extensive flood damage caused by Hurricane Harvey. In the wake of worldwide storms in recent weeks spanning the globe ranging from the American South to South Asia\, we dedicate this dinner to the people affected and to our deep appreciation of the beauty and power of our seas\, understanding that there often lies fire beneath the appearance of calm\, and that the action of respect and understanding our planet and one another is our greatest offering. \nEach diner will receive a complimentary cocktail upon entry and wine will be available for purchase throughout the evening. \nFeel free to email aaparikh@gmail.com with any additional questions.
