SUMMARY:Savory Salon Holiday Edition
DESCRIPTION:From the organizers: \nCelebrating this holiday season with us on Sunday\, December 17th at our friend NUMU Vegan Cheese headquarters in Brooklyn. \nEnjoy four courses of global cuisine made with all plant-based ingredients inspired by dishes from Thailand\, Korea\, Hawaii and more. This menu references the different flavor profiles of various cuisines in an exploratory\, inspirational\, educational and enjoyable way. \nABOUT PAS\nPas is a Thai Native who moved to New York City in 1992. After finishing an MFA at Pratt Institute\, his love for New York and its food got the best of him and so he has been living there ever since. \nHe ate everything from every buzzed-about restaurant. He gained weight and got sick before he realized that the expression\, “you are what you eat”\, was actually true. \nHe used to live by the words of Alexander Woolcott\, “All the things I really like to do are either illegal\, immoral\, or fattening.” So when he adopted a plant-based lifestyle\, he shocked and saddened all his friends. \nPas brings creativity and a personal touch to create engaging\, memorable events. He champions plant-based local businesses by providing a platform for them to reach new audiences. \nPas has been feeding his friends at his Sunday brunch for years and is now feeding the curious minds and stomachs at the various pop-up restaurant in New York City and at The Brampton in the Adirondack. His approach is to have fun with food and bring joy & comfort using local ingredients through his dishes. \nABOUT NUMU\nNUMU Vegan: a brand new vegan mozzarella with melt\, stretch\, and flavor that you haven’t experienced with other non-dairy cheeses! Enjoy a unique pop-up dining experience at NUMU Vegan Headquarters! Located across from the Brooklyn Navy Yards\, this is where the Research and Development for NUMU Vegan happens.

SUMMARY:Open Baking Day at The Old Stone House
DESCRIPTION:From the organizers: \nCome join us for Community Baking Day at the new oven! \nYou can bring any dish or recipe — from cookies to pie to chicken and more — and cook it yourself in the outdoor wood-fired oven. \nYou don’t have to share what you bake\, but you will find many willing taste-testers! Kids are welcome and generally have a great time. Non-bakers are also welcome to come hang out and volunteer for taste-testing duty! \nWe’ll meet at the stone oven next to the Old Stone House (http://theoldstonehouse.org/)\, in the middle of the park on 3rd Street\, between 4th Ave and 5th Ave\, in Brooklyn. \nFiring the oven will start around 9am\, and we’ll bake from noon-ish until 4pm. Drop by any time! Keep in mind\, when it gets busy there may be a wait of an hour or so until a spot opens up in the oven. \nWe’ll be standing around outside the entire time\, so be sure to dress with that in mind. Wear multiple layers\, and be sure to wear warm\, dry boots. \nThe weather can be unpredictable. We will bake even if it is cold or raining\, as long as it is calm out. However\, if it is windy we may cancel. \nIf you’re baking\, a suggested donation of $5 to the Old Stone House for the Oven Fund would be much appreciated — it helps pay for firewood. Thanks!

Thanks!

SUMMARY:SUMO STEW Brooklyn 111517
DESCRIPTION:From the organizers: \nSUMO STEW (#SUMOSTEW) is back in Brooklyn for its 17th round! Inspired by a trip to Japan\, photographer Michael Harlan Turkell (harlanturk.com) returned to New York City with aspirations of importing this ancient sport and teamed up with Harry Rosenblum\, owner of The Brooklyn Kitchen(thebrooklynkitchen.com)\, a wonderfully multi-faceted cooking store and center for culinary education. The two created a series based around plentiful bowls of chankonabe\, the “sumo stew” wrestlers prepare and eat before matches. The hearty broth is loaded with fortifying protein and vegetables. This\, paired with the live streamed bimonthly grand tournaments\, makes for a lively event\, bringing hungry first time and long-standing sumo fans ringside. \nThis round of SUMO STEW will feature Chicken & Yuba Chankonabe made by Brooklyn’s Momo Sushi Shack. momosushishack.com
