SUMMARY:Co-Ferment: Blending Perceptions of Cider\, Wine\, & Beer
DESCRIPTION:From our organizers: \nCome explore the gray areas of fermentation: the intersection of cider\, wine and beer. CoFerment\, a tasting and panel discussion led by Jordan Werner Barry and Daniel Pucci\, will focus on the ways that these seemingly different beverages overlap—production methods\, farming\, flavor\, culture\, and the language we use to talk about them. We have assembled an all-star panel to leads us down this wild path of natural fermentation\, where we will learn and taste the differences\, and examine the similarities of the tipples we all know so well. \nAPPLES John Reynolds – Blackduck Cidery\, Finger Lakes\, NY. A long time fruit grower turned begrudging\, hands-off cidermaker. \nGRAPES Darek Trowbridge – Old World Winery\, Sonoma\, CA. A 4th Generation grape grower of forgotten and lost grapes. Darek will also be pouring his wines at the RAW Wine Fair. \nGRAIN Lauren Grimm – Grimm Artisanal Ales\, Bushwick\, Brooklyn. A formerly Nomadic and now Bushwick/East Williamsburg-based brewer extraordinaire pushing the limits of expectation.

SUMMARY:Pouring Green-Wood
DESCRIPTION:According to the organizers: \nWhen Joy Doumis and Jeremy Hammond approached Green-Wood in fall 2015 to ask if they could harvest the apples here\, of course we had to know why. To make hard cider of course! Spread across 478 acres\, our urban orchard has over 150 Malus (aka apple) trees! Using giant tarps to gather apples varieties that include Baldwin\, Granny Smith\, various crab apples\, and a yet-to-be-identified apple variety\, they set about turning their harvest into a delicious fermentation of homemade hard cider. In keeping with the sustainable farming movement and a love for all things Green-Wood\, join Joy and Jeremy for the story of how they produced over 100 bottles of hard cider (which they call Proper Cider) in their own back yard literally. Naturally\, a tasting of the final product is included.

SUMMARY:Cider and Chocolate Pairing
DESCRIPTION:According to the organizers: \n\n\nCider & Chocolate? Yes indeed! We’re celebrating Cider Week at our factory with local NY cider maker Descendant Cider Co. This is perhaps the only event with the trifecta of tastiness: cider\, chocolate\, and cheese. Join us for a spirited evening of crisp ciders\, craft chocolate\, cheese and other nibbles. Come learn about Descendant Cider\, the Big Apple’s little urban cidery and taste five ciders with five complimentary chocolates from our current collection. While chocolate is often paired with wine\, we find the distinct\, crisp ciders from Descendant play incredibly well with our cacao-forward\, unroasted chocolate. \nBoth Descendant and Raaka make everything from scratch at our respective locations: from apples to bottles\, from beans to bars. Murray’s Cheese Shop will be generously providing more fermented goods as well.

SUMMARY:Free Naked Flock Tasting
DESCRIPTION:According to the organizers: \nNothing gets us excited about fall like crisp\, local cider\, so we’re celebrating Cider Week NYC in style. Join us for a free tasting of Applewood Winery’s Naked Flock in our Brooklyn store all Friday night. \nWondering where their name came from? According to them\, “The Naked Flock Story is an old folk tale from the town of Warwick. There was a Pastor who was great friends with Moby Dick Author Herman Melville. Melville brought the Pastor a gift from a trip to the Orient. Seeds that the Pastor planted in his garden and grew into the most beautiful Poppies that anyone in the town had seen. One day the geese broke into the garden and ate the Poppies\, and yes\, they were those kind of Poppies. The geese fell into a sleep so deep that they were thought dead and plucked by the pastors children for their feathers. To everyones shock\, hours later the geese awoke and staggered around naked. The Pastors own congregation was horrified by the sight and demanded the geese be slaughtered. But listeneing to the pleas of his children he decided to take a stand and defend the Naked Flock.” \nSee you in DUMBO!
