SUMMARY:Kitchen Art Class
DESCRIPTION:From the organizers: \nWe love nothing more than using our studio and we’re excited to take a different angle with our Kitchen Art Class. \nTaking inspiration from the great Dutch masters to Cezanne we will explore the wiles of still life. Cook Space is not just a kitchen and dining room~it is a stage and platform to bond with food. Instead of “you are what you eat” we will paint what we eat! \nThe Kitchen Art Class will begin with creating centerpieces that will combine kitchen materials and food\, from this still life we will explore concepts for composition\, color theory and talk about and show examples of food as a favorite subject to paint for artists throughout time. We will sketch and then move on to free style open painting. \nThe class will be led by Artist Jean Rim and Cook Space founder (and fellow painter) Michelle Mannix \nThe class will focus on watercolor and pastels and their various techniques to get your palette wet.  Please join us for this feast of visuals. \nWatercolors\, brushes and paper supplies will be provided along with some tasty bites to fuel your creative juices!

SUMMARY:The Brooklyn Gaze Edition 2: Lightpost
DESCRIPTION:According to the organizers: \nThe Brooklyn Gaze is a new series of video-projection artworks commissioned by BPL Presents. In collaboration with visual artists Mark Read and Jeanne Angel\, we present the second edition of the series\, Lightpost\, during which the iconic facade of the Brooklyn Public Library will once again be transformed\, this time by audience-generated projections. \nThe first edition of the Brooklyn Gaze: Erasure and Revelation featured massive animated texts by thinkers such as James Baldwin\, Hannah Arendt\, and Sojourner Truth\, texts that were partially erased\, leaving provocative questions in their wake. These immersive animations\, accompanied by the music of award-winning film composer Paul Brill\, will be reprised for Edition Two: Lightpost. These questions will spur a community dialogue on the themes of Justice\, Truth\, Humanity\, and Love.
