It’s getting colder, which means that parties and events are trending towards tropical themes and tiki is everywhere (sort of). Kings County Saloon, home of the infamous smallest penis contest, is hosting a popup with Black Tree chef Sandy Dee Hall on November 5-9. The final event, which is an all-you-can eat Polynesian luau complete with a whole hog from Violet Hill Farm, also features tiki punch (rum, pineapple, citrus juice and a spice blend) and three surf rock bands. You might have to wear long underwear under your Hawaiian shirt, but it’s probably worth it to break out your floral print one last time.
We got a sneak peak at the menu, and it focuses primarily on various iterations of pork and duck. Although we are curious about “locally sourced” shishito peppers two weeks from now when they’ve nearly vanished from the markets as of today, we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they’re paying an arm and a leg for the last of them in the spirit of tiki.
